5-Day Sahara Adventure from Marrakech
Detailed Itinerary
Your 5-day Sahara adventure begins as we leave Marrakech and drive into the High Atlas Mountains. Crossing the famous Tizi N'Tichka Pass, we stop at scenic viewpoints where traditional Berber villages cling to the mountainsides.
We then visit the legendary Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and filming location for movies such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones. After exploring its ancient alleys, we continue to Ouarzazate, known as the "Hollywood of Africa".
Passing through Skoura Oasis and the Valley of Roses, we reach the spectacular Dades Valley, famous for its dramatic rock formations known as "Monkey Fingers".
After breakfast, we travel toward Tinghir and visit the spectacular Todra Gorge, where towering cliffs rise nearly 300 meters high, creating one of Morocco’s most impressive natural landscapes.
Continuing toward the Sahara Desert, the scenery gradually changes from mountains to endless desert plains until we reach Merzouga.
Here your camel caravan awaits. Ride across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi while watching the unforgettable Sahara sunset. In the evening enjoy a traditional dinner, Berber music around the fire, and a breathtaking star-filled sky.
Wake up early to witness the magical sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. After breakfast, the day is dedicated to discovering the cultural life of the Sahara.
Visit nomadic families to learn about their traditions and daily life in the desert. Explore an abandoned mining village that reflects the region’s industrial past.
In Khamlia village, enjoy a live Gnaoua music performance, a vibrant musical tradition combining African, Arab, and Berber influences. Depending on the season, we may also visit a nearby desert lake that attracts migratory birds.
Leaving the desert, we stop in Rissani, an authentic traditional market town and historic center of trans-Saharan trade.
Explore its lively souk filled with spices, carpets, and local crafts before continuing through the beautiful Draa Valley, famous for its endless palm groves and ancient kasbahs.
After enjoying panoramic views in Agdez, we continue to Ouarzazate where you will spend the evening in a comfortable riad.
After breakfast we explore the historic Taourirt Kasbah in Ouarzazate, once the residence of the powerful Glaoui family.
We then return to the impressive Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah before continuing to the hidden Telouet Kasbah, a fascinating fortress once belonging to the Glaoui dynasty.
Crossing the High Atlas Mountains once again, we arrive back in Marrakech in the evening, marking the end of an unforgettable Sahara journey.

Why University Trips to Marrakech Are the Top Choice
for Academic Societies
Academic societies, sports teams, and student groups choose our Morocco student tours for good reason:
Tailored for Groups
We understand group dynamics. Our itineraries balance structured activities with free time, group meals with solo exploration, and adventure with relaxation. We can also customize the tour for specific academic interests—whether your group studies architecture, film, religion, or development studies.
Academic Value
This isn’t just a holiday. Students return with:
Firsthand understanding of Islamic architecture and UNESCO preservation
Cultural competency gained from genuine interactions with Berber and nomadic communities
Historical perspective on trade routes, colonialism, and post-independence Morocco
Environmental awareness of desert ecosystems and oasis agriculture
Bonding That Lasts
There’s something about sharing a camel trek, competing in sandboarding, and drumming around a desert fire that creates friendships stronger than any campus social. Many students tell us their student trips to Morocco became the defining memory of their university years.
Practical Information for Student Travelers
When to Go
Spring (March-May): Perfect temperatures, wildflowers in bloom
Autumn (September-November): Warm days, cool nights, clear skies
Winter (December-February): Cold desert nights but sunny days, fewer crowds
Summer (June-August): Very hot in desert—possible but requires extra precautions
What to Pack
Comfortable walking shoes for gorges and kasbahs
Warm layers for cold desert nights (even in summer!)
Sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses—the desert sun is intense
Reusable water bottle (we provide refills)
Modest clothing covering shoulders and knees for visiting religious sites
Camera with extra batteries (cold drains batteries faster)
Small gifts for nomadic families (pencils, notebooks, or school supplies are always appreciated)
Dietary Needs
Moroccan cuisine is incredibly varied and naturally accommodates many dietary requirements. Please inform us in advance of any allergies or restrictions, and we’ll ensure our hosts accommodate you.
Budget Tips for Students
Most main meals are included, so your main expenses are souvenirs and tips

Consider pooling resources to buy a shared carpet or souvenir
Tipping is customary but not mandatory—guide your group on local norms

Quality Vehicles: Modern, air-conditioned 4x4s and minibuses maintained to the highest standards

Cultural Respect
We prepare your group to navigate Moroccan culture with respect and confidence:
Dress modestly in rural areas
Ask permission before photographing people
Use right hand for eating and greeting
Learn a few words of Darija (Moroccan Arabic): Salam alaykum (hello), Shukran (thank you), La shukran (no thank you)
